What is Applied Biotechnology?
Applied Biotechnology is the use of living organisms or their products to modify human health and the human environment. This can include:
- Drug development
- The use of bacteria in industry
- Development of food and pharmaceuticals with modified organisms
What are typical jobs?
Applied Biotechnology graduates fill crucial roles within the biotech industry. Depending on the area of emphasis you choose (plant, animal, food), jobs can range from working in labs developing vaccines to being a sales rep for a biotechnology company. Employment opportunities are available with federal and state agencies, universities, private corporations, and research centers. Qualified graduates may elect to study for the M.S. or Ph.D. at the University of Georgia or at other universities.
