Research, Teaching, and Extension Work
I have a 75% research and 25% extension appointment as a cropping systems agronomist. A large part of my program is devoted to improvement of production practices for peanuts, but will also branch into projects related to cotton, corn, soybean, and numerous other crops. This especially includes tillage practices, crop rotations, cover crop utilization, nutrient cycling, sustainability, and organic production practices. My work will complement and supplement the extension peanut agronomic responsibilities of John Beasley. I will also collaborate closely with other members of the UGA Peanut and Cotton Teams. Many major problems facing crop production are complex, but can be controlled or suppressed with proper cropping systems. Often, the easiest and most cost-effective solution is a change in agronomic strategy, which is what my research is geared toward diagnosing. Ideally, it is my goal to help growers achieve maximized profits while improving environmental impacts from their operations. Realistically, my program will help farmers increase profits without affecting the sustainability of their operation, and improve environmental conditions without reducing the grower's potential profit.
