Research, Teaching, and Extension Work

Development of superior warm-season turfgrass cultivars.

  1. Bermudagrass: Breeding and selection for enhanced drought and plant-parasitic nematode response.
  2. Centipedegrass: Selection for persistence in high pH and saline soils.
  3. Zoysiagrass: Breeding and selection for low maintenance applications.
  4. Integrate molecular breeding technologies (in conjunction with USDA and UGA scientists) with classical methods to improve the cultivar development process.
  5. Incorporate turfgrass management tools (digital image analysis and spectral reflectance) to provide quantitative, non-biased information to aid in selection.
