Research, Teaching, and Extension Work

My research is focused on ecological and management aspects of grazed grasses, legumes, and forbs. Working closely with a plant breeder, our objective is to improve grazing tolerance and competitive ability of high-quality grasses, clovers, and other legumes in pastures to obtain better beef cattle performance. Studies are centered on using non-toxic "friendly" fungal endophytes in tall fescue and their effect on grazing animal performance and beneficial effects on the grass plant. I teach basic courses in Forage Management and Utilization as well as Crop Ecology.
