2009 Peanut Sale in Full Swing (posted 11.05.09)
The Turf and Agronomy Clubs are joining forces to host the 2009 Annual Peanut Sale. Pre-orders are being taken now, and the sale is being aggressively marketed both on campus and in the surrounding Athens area. Proceeds from the sale will support club activities, including student travel and a spring banquet. UGA Soil Judging Team places 5th at Regional competition (posted 10.20.09)
The UGA Soil Judging Team spent the week of Oct 12-16, 2009, in Crossville, TN, describing the soils of the Cumberland Pateau. Ten other teams competed in the contest hosted by the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. UGA placed 5th in the team rankings, with Louise Jacques and Audrey Morgan placing in the Top 10 in individual scores. The team will travel to Lubbock, TX, in April 2010 to compete in the national contest.

D.W.Brooks awards to two CRSS Faculty Members

Dr. Stanley Culpepper, Tifton campus, received the Brooks award for Outstanding Extension. Dr. Monique Leclerc, Griffin campus, received the Brooks award for Outstanding Research. The Dean presented them each with a plaque at a college banquet on October 6, 2009.

Fall Cookout - October 19, 2009 (posted 10.16.09)
This year's fall cookout will be held on Friday, October 23, 2009. Food will be served starting at 12:30pm. A flag football game will commence following lunch. Please see our flyer, or contact Laura Burris (542-2461) for more information.

Boy #2 for the Tubbs Family (poster 10.14.09)
Dr. Scott Tubbs and wife, Danielle, welcomed their second son, Reid Samuel, on September 23, 2009. Dr. Tubbs works at the Griffin campus as an Assistant Professor.

It's a Daughter for Jeremy and Kelly (posted 10.14.09)
Jeremy Connell and his wife, Kelly, welcomed a daughter, Ella Rose, into their family on August 14, 2009. Jeremy is a Masters student working under Dr. Dennis Hancock.

Culpepper family welcomes baby girl (posted 10.14.09)
Dr. Stanley Culpepper and his wife welcomed their first child, a girl named Sarah Grayce, in August. Dr. Culpepper works at our Tifton campus as an Associate Professor and Extension Agronomist in Weed Science.

Georgia Power Professor Named (posted 06.16.09)
Dr. Miguel Cabrera has been appointed as the Georgia Power Professor in Environmental Remediation and Soil Chemistry.

Andrew Ross receives Ag Fellowship (posted 04.15.09)
Andrew Ross has been selected to receive the 2009 Jim Marshall Congressional Ag Fellowship in Washington, D.C. As an Ag Fellow, Drew will spend 12 weeks working with Congressional Office staff on agricultural, food, resource and environmental issues. In addition to compensation from the Congressional Office, Drew will also receive scholarships totalling $3000 from CAES.

2009 Spring Picnic to be held April 23 (posted 04.10.09)
The Annual CRSS Spring Picnic will be held on Thursday, April 23, at the Plant Science Farm. The festivites will begin at 3:00 pm, with food served shortly after. Friends and family are cordially invited; there will be plenty of food and fun games for all. Please be sure to thank members of the Agronomy Club while you are there, as they are providing all of the food for this event. Dr. Monique Leclerc named Regents Professor (posted 04.03.09)
Dr. Monique Leclerc, of our Griffin campus, has been names a Regents Professor "for her internationally recognized studies on atmospheric biogeosciences and climate change."

Dr. Dennis Hancock receives extension acheivement award (posted 03.17.09)
Dr. Hancock was recently selected to receive the 2009 Gamma Sigma Delta Junior Achievement in Extension Award by the University of Georgia chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta, the Honor Society of Agriculture. He will be recognized for his accomplishments and presented with an award certificate at the annual Gamma Sigma Delta awards banquet in April.

Dr. Dewey Lee elected to University Council (posted 03.17.09)
Effective August 14, 2009, Dr. Dewey Lee will help represent CAES as a member of the University Council. His term will last until 2012.

Dr. Tim Murphy honored by SWSS (posted 02.19.09)
At the Southern Weed Science Society Annual conference, held February 9-13, 2009, in Orlando, FL, Dr. Tim Murphy was given the 2009 Distinguished Service Award.

Dr. Timothy Grey receives Early Career Award (posted 02.19.09)

Dr. Tim Grey received the 2009 Early Career Award from the Southern Branch of the American Society of Agronomy. He was presented with this award at the Southern Branch meeting in Atlanta in February.

Dr. Monique Leclerc appointed to CAST board (posted 02.05.09)

Dr. Monique Leclerc has been appointed to the Council of Agricultural Science and Technology Board of Directors.
Dr. Leclerc hopes to use this appointment to "enhance the visibility of climage change in agriculture."

Dr. Andrew Paterson named AAAS Fellow (posted 02.05.09)

In December 2008, Dr. Andrew Paterson was one of five UGA Fellows named by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, in recognition of the contributions he makes to the science community.

Dr. William Vencill, Editor (posted 01.13.09)

Effective July 1, 2009, Dr. William Vencill will serve as Editor of Weed Science, Journal of the Weed Science Society of America.
