Dr. Moore Awarded Bronze Medal at CORESTA Congress (posted 10.04.10)
Dr. J. Michael Moore was awarded one of seven bronze medals presented by the Board of CORESTA, in thanks for his contribution and commitment as coordinator in the TF Curing Technology and for his work with TF Integrated Pest Management. The medal was presentation to Dr. Moore at the CORESTA Congress, held September 12-17, 2010, in Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom. The Cooperation Centre for Scientific Research Relative to Tabacco (CORESTA) is an international consortium of tobacco scientists, headquartered in Paris, France.

Fall Cookout - October 15, 2010 (posted 09.23.10)
This year's fall cookout will be held on Friday, October 15, 2010. Food will be served starting at 3:00pm. A flag football game will commence following lunch. Please contact Laura Burris (542-2461) for more information.

2010 Annual Peanut Sale has begun! (posted 09.23.10)
The Annual Peanut Sale, hosted by the Turf and Agronomy Clubs, began on September 22. Pre-orders are due by October 11, and peanuts will be available for pickup on November 8 & 9, and 15 & 16. The UGA Golf Course has graciously allowed us the use of their parking lot for this year's pickup location. Click here for current order form.

UGA Soil Judging Team to host Regional Soil Judging Competition (posted 09.23.10)
The University of Georgia is the host school for the 2010 Regional Collegiate Soil Judging Competition. Dr. Bill Miller, UGA team coach, has already spent many hours arranging room and board for the visiting teams, scouting nearby areas for possible pit placements, and arranging for pits to be dug. Teams will begin arriving on October 17, 2010, for the annual contest.

UGA Turf Club chosen Club of the Year (posted 05.03.10)
The UGA Turf Club has been selected by the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences as the 2009-2010 Club of the Year. The Club will be given $500 for the 2010-2011 academic year.

2010 Spring Picnic (posted 04.20.10)
The annual Spring picnic was held on Thursday, April 15, on the front lawn of the Miller Plant Sciences building. Students, faculty, and staff enjoyed games of flag football and frisbee, and then sat down to relax with a cold drink and a hot meal.

CRSS Spring Appreciation Banquet (posted 04.20.10)
On Tuesday, April 13, 2010, students, faculty, staff, and invited guests were treated to a catered meal at the Holiday Inn in Athens. After the meal, all in attendance enjoyed listening to remarks from Mark Fox, head coach of the UGA Men's Basketball team. After the banquet ended, Coach Fox graciously spent time talking with guests and posing for pictures. Many thanks go out to Coach Fox, and to the members of the UGA Turf and Agronomy Clubs for sponsoring the banquet and helping to make it such a success!

UGA Soil Judging Team competes in National Competition (posted 04.02.10)
The Soil Judging team travelled to Lubbock, TX, March 20-27, 2010, to compete in the National Collegiate Soil Judging competition at Texas Tech University. After four days of practice on the Texas high plains, the team began a 2-day competition that resulted in an overall eighth place. Christian Hoadley (Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources) also placed 5th in the Individual competition.

Dr. Jerry Johnson receives GCIA award (posted 04.02.10)
Dr. Jerry Johnson, from the Griffin campus, received the Georgia Crop Improvements Association Outstanding Service Award. The award was presented to Dr. Johnson at the GCIA Annual Meeting at the Georgia Center in March.

2010 Annual Spring Picnic to be held April 15 (posted 04.02.10)
The annual spring picnic will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2010. Hot dogs, hamburgers, and all the associated fixings, will be served fresh off the grill on the front lawn of the Miller Plant Sciences buildling at 5:30pm. All students, faculty and staff are invited, and we look forward to seeing you there!

2010 Spring Appreciation Banquet includes special Guest Speaker (posted 04.02.10)
The Turf and Agronomy Clubs are hosting a Spring Appreciation banquet on Tuesday, April 13, 2010. A banquet room and catered dinner are being provided by the Athens Holiday Inn, and the special guest speaker is UGA Men's Basketball coach, Mr. Mark Fox. The Club members are sponsoring this event to offer their thanks to the department faculty and staff for the assistance and support given throughout the year.
