Admission Process

Admission of a student to the graduate program in Crop & Soil Sciences depends on:

1. the criteria listed in Admission Guidelines
2. the availability of a faculty member able to serve as major professor
3. the availability of assistantship funds for students requiring financial aid

All admissions are based on a favorable evaluation by the Department Graduate Coordinating Committee and acceptance by the Graduate School of the University of Georgia. Graduate students who have not made a commitment as to their major professor will be assigned one before they are accepted by the department. These will be tentative assignments subject to change by consent of the major professor, student, and Department Head. Many assistantships, scholarships, etc. are assigned to research program leaders and may not be transferrable to another major professor. It is not a requirement that a student be on an assistantship or demonstrate financial responsibility beyond that required by the Graduate School for international students. However, the department is under no obligation to provide financial support for these students and their major professor must provide a written recommendation that the student be admitted, despite the absence of an assistantship, before the Graduate Committee will recommend acceptance. Graduate enrollment will be based upon space and available appropriate faculty to direct student programs.
